As part of a major reset of community football, O'Donohue will cover AFL North East Border, AFL Central Vic, AFL Goulburn Murray, AFL Sunraysia, AFL Central Murray, and AFL Wimmera Mallee.
Richard Black has been appointed to the Southern Country football manager position.
"I'll still be based at Wangaratta," O'Donohue said.
"We have regional managers in those regions and my role is basically to support them.
"I'm looking forward to getting into it."
The changes kicked into place last week.
O'Donohue's role as AFL North East Border region general manager is set to be filled early next year.
Former North Melbourne coach Brad Scott is head of AFL Victoria.
