While works on a new swimming pool are in progress, the Liberal MP told Parliament this week that there were also plans to expand the gymnasium, increase the basketball courts from three to five and redevelop netball courts to make them competition size.
"The Rural City of Wangaratta has recognised that the centre is outdated and currently fails to meet the demands of its users. As such, the council has plans to expand the capacity of the centre to improve customer and user experience as well as enhance the ability of the city to attract large-scale sporting events," Ms Lovell said.
"The project is also a significant job creator and will assist the economic recovery of the region in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic."
