Firefighters were called to the grass and scrub fire on Bandiana Link Road on Sunday night.
The blaze burnt through a large area towards the freeway after starting about 8.50pm.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Tracy Jarrott said investigators were seeking witnesses to what occurred.
