The utility, who played a game with GWS and two at Essendon, will join 210cm giant and ex-GWS and Geelong ruckman Dawson Simpson and former Geelong-Richmond run-with player Taylor Hunt.

Aylett joined Essendon's VFL outfit in 2019 and nominated Myrtleford as his second club after playing alongside Saints' coach Jake Sharp at Werribee the previous season.

A calf injury at the Bombers forced Aylett to regain match practice at O and M level, where he played five games.

The strong-bodied on-baller was working himself back after a long break, so the league is yet to see his best.

"Most definitely and being full-time now, he'll settle into the tempo and game style of Ovens and Murray and we have no doubt he will be a massive addition for us, he's got a good endurance and is a big, strong inside midfielder," Sharp said.

Aylett will turn 29 at the start of the season, so the Saints will have a player with plenty of top football left.

"He can link up really well in play, you'll find him at the start of a potential attack in defence and then being on the end of it or contributing later down the ground and that comes from his high work rate and work ethic," Sharp praised.

"Outside of that, he's a great leader and he's going to be very good for our young boys."

Aylett, who was a five-pointer at the Saints last year, will travel from Melbourne.

"He'll work with our Melbourne boys and take on responsibility down there with training," Sharp enthused.
