Benalla mayor Danny Claridge will continue to lead the city's council for another year after being re-elected to the position last night.

Cr Claridge was first elected to council in 2016, and in 2019 become the city's mayor.
Deputy mayor Bernie Hearn was also returned to the role of deputy mayor.
The newly elected council consists of former mayors Justin King and Don Firth, former deputy mayor Peter David and first-time councillors Gail O'Brien and Punjari Hewa Gunaratne.

Cr Claridge said it was a privilege to be re-elected mayor and thanked his fellow councillors.
"This council has a broad mix of people, including former councillors and those new to the role as well as people with different life experiences and different professional backgrounds and skills," he said.
