Despite the anniversary falling during the pandemic, Border organisers were determined to ensure kids didn't miss out.

With the support of sponsors, more than 600 children will take part in a virtual party and receive presents throughout the first week of December.

Albury event co-ordinator Louise Carroll is looking for a freight company to help deliver the gifts.

"We've got some volunteers and we're looking at hiring a truck for a couple days - we've got quite a lot of presents to deliver," she said.

"Border Express did our pick up and delivered them to our warehouse, which has been kindly donated through L.J Colquhoun Dixon.

"We've tried as hard as we can to personalise it for the kids.

"It's important this year they have something happening.

"It's a really positive thing for the community, as so many things have been taken away from us."

Ms Carroll said it had been a tough decision to move the annual party to an online format, but Santa would still be appearing.

"We considered a drive-through party, so that people were isolated in their car," she said.

"There were cross border plans. Then Steve Bowen mentioned he'd been doing some online discos and the light-bulb went on.

"The support for the change in format, because we're still proceeding with something, has been really amazing."

The event is for children who experience serious illnesses, physical or intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or disadvantage.

Last year, more than 800 participants enjoyed an event at Wodonga Sports and Leisure centre. Participants have been sent an invitation with a QR Code linking to the event, which will happen on Sunday, November 29.

Santa will appear at the party and there will be skateboard demonstrations and performers.

Ms Carroll has seen the benefits of the event as a volunteer, and for the last two years as the co-ordinator.

"It's such an amazing event. Some of our kids who have gone to the party have then come back and volunteered," she said.
