On Sunday more than 600 people walked around the Border, as well as places like Corowa, Culcairn, Canberra and Cairns, to raise about $160,000 for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
"We even had one guy walking in America," trust fund chairperson Michelle Hensel said.
"In this year that we've had, to have such a display of community strength was just amazing.
Held as a virtual event by COVID necessity, the fundraiser allowed people to choose their own time and route to complete distances of five kilometres, 10km or 20km.
Mrs Hensel said she loved that concept, with teams being innovative in their fundraising efforts for the cancer centre.
"We're just so lucky that people are realising that this is an incredible asset just here in our community and people just want to support it," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The 60-odd members of the Chemo Chicks team know all about the cancer centre because members work there in areas such as nursing, ward clerks, pharmacists and catering staff.
To beat the heat, the group set off from the cancer centre car park at 7am sharp, bound for Thurgoona and back.
Team captain Kim Foulkes said they entered a team last year, just wanting to walk, but in 2020 increased their numbers and fundraising efforts.
"This year we just thought it would be really, really good, with everything that's been happening, to show support .. for people to see this is pretty amazing," she said.
By Monday morning, the Chemo Chicks total had passed $13,000 and four other teams had also topped $10,000.
Sunshine Walk fundraising will remain open until December 6.
