The weather event hit the region so quickly and with such force, that many thought a tornado had struck.
The SES received calls to 51 jobs in the North East in the 24 hours to Monday afternoon.
Yarrawonga received the highest number of calls, with eight calls for assistance, five jobs in Wodonga, three in Tallangatta, and other calls to Burramine, Pechelba and Corryong.
A Bureau of Meteorology forecaster said while Yarrawonga's wind was similar to a tornado, the damage was caused by thunderstorms.
Trees were knocked down and buildings damaged.
The wild weather impacted the foreshore and led to tree branches falling at the Yarrawonga Holiday Park and hitting cabins.
Police and the SES were kept busy in the region as trees blocked roads.
Similar incidents were recorded across the Border, with a video from Bandiana showing a trampoline being flung into the air.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Keris Arndt said a large amount of rain fell in a short amount of time in the state on Sunday.
He noted the reports of a tornado at Yarrawonga.
"There was definitely a fair bit of wind damage reported with the storms that went though," Mr Arndt said.
"I've seen photos of fences down and roof damage, which is definitely associated with wind damage.
"At this stage, it doesn't look like we have seen any tornadic activity.
"It's most winds that would be associated with thunderstorm outflow.
"These can be really rapid onset winds and similar to tornadic damage, in that the winds are very strong for a short amount of time."
Mr Ardy said a "much quieter week ahead was forecast".
"Everything's moving off pretty quickly now," he said.
Staff at the caravan park were busy cleaning up the property on Monday.
Wind continued to batter the region at times.
Gusts of 87km/h were recorded at Albury Airport about 10.29am.
There were also gusts of 107km/h recorded at Yarrawonga at 9.45am.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued and later cancelled, with rain causing minor flooding.
It's unlikely to rain for the rest of the week.
Denison County Caravan Park was destroyed by the extreme weather event, along with other properties.
