A frustrated Roshelle Howard used the weapon to smash up the venue during a recent outburst.
She had only recently purchased the Round Hill Hotel at Morven, near Culcairn, with her fiance.
Frustrated by the work required at the venue, she grabbed the axe and hit five holes into the building's walls last Monday night.
"It appears the move to Morven has put the relationship under stress with a lot more work required to the hotel than the accused and the victim had originally envisaged," police told Albury Local Court yesterday.
"The hotel has been closed for approximately two weeks as they undertake some major repairs."

Officers arrived at the venue early last Tuesday and saw the damage.
"Police spoke with the accused who stated she had just had enough," the court heard.
Her partner had called triple zero but told the police that he didn't want to make a statement.
But he said Howard had been angry for the previous two days.
Howard admitted her actions to police and said that she felt the victim didn't appreciate the work she put into the venue.
She told magistrate Miranda Moody it had been a "moment of insanity" and that the damaged walls had been in need of replacement anyway.
All she had done was make more work for herself, Howard told the court.
It was noted that she owned half of the property that had been damaged with the axe anyway.
Her partner of two years sat behind her in the court room in support.
Ms Moody noted that she had no criminal record.
"She admits that she basically lost it on the day," she said.
Howard was placed on a six-month bond on a single charge of intentionally or recklessly damaging property.
The magistrate did not record a conviction.
