The Albury man, who asked not to be named, said he'd just finished work and was driving home about 12.30am when the collision occurred on Young Street, near the Dean Street intersection
"Basically there was a speeding car coming the other way on the same side of the road as me," he said.
"It all happened pretty quickly."
Police are still investigating the crash, trying to locate the driver of a white Hyundai Excel and two passengers who fled, leaving an injured woman behind.
The other driver, in a Ford Ranger, said the other car received more damage.
"It's probably lucky I had a bull bar on, otherwise I would have been cuddling my motor," he said.
"Their car's just gone straight under my car, I had to reverse back off it."
He estimated the Excel was travelling about 80km/h at the time of the crash while his vehicle was stationary.
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
"Just basically a bit of whiplash, bit through the muscles on the back of my neck, otherwise OK," he said.
"It was more of a shock last night, probably the following half hour, 40 minutes, but settled down pretty quickly after that and I'm back at work."

"Shortly after, police were alerted to a crash between the car and a Ford Ranger near the intersection of Dean and Young streets."
Police were told the driver and two occupants of the car fled the scene.
The fourth person in the car, a woman aged 23, remained in the vehicle with leg and spinal injuries.
