The Bureau of Meteorology have forecast a heatwave will hit the North East and Southern Riverina across Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District, which spans the Southern Riverina into Albury, has urged residents to take the risk of heat-related illnesses seriously.
Director Public Health Tracey Oakman said heat-related illness can affect anyone but adults over 75, young children, people who live alone and people with chronic medical conditions are particularly vulnerable.
"Every year hot weather and heat waves cause illness, hospitalisations and sometimes even deaths," she said.
"Heat puts a lot of strain on the body and can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It can also make underlying health conditions worse."
Mrs Oakman said drinking water and avoiding alcohol, hot or sugary drinks can help minimise the risk of heat-related illnesses.
