The city's council confirmed the fireworks would go ahead - but not in Apex Park as usual.
"Council will light up the sky with fireworks from three secret locations around Wangaratta, rather than the traditional event in Apex Park which regularly attracts thousands of people," council said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We really want to celebrate the end to such a challenging year."
The fireworks display will take place between 9.30pm and 10.30pm, with residents encouraged to celebrate in their yard.
In the case of a CFA code red or severe winds the display will be cancelled. For more information: wangaratta.vic.gov/nye
