Last week, the Department of Health and Human Services revealed viral fragments of coronavirus were detected in Altona, Benalla and Portland wastewater, despite no known local people having recent infections.

The department has confirmed despite additional COVID clinics being set up in Benalla no visitors or residents had tested positive for the virus.
On Thursday, an additional warning was issued for residents of Lara and Geelong after viral fragments were found in their wastewater.
Acting Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng said people who have had coronavirus may shed the virus or virus fragments for several weeks in their stool, well beyond their infectious period.
