Multiple brigades were called to the Harper Street property about 8am on Thursday.
Crews were on scene for about an hour.
Fire Rescue Victoria Commander Ash Mills said the blaze didn't appear to be suspicious, but FRV and police investigators would attend to examine the home.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It was contained to a small area of the house," he said.
"It was managed fairly quickly by Wangaratta staff, supported by volunteer stations.
"The team got there very quickly - it's close to the fire station.
"There's no indication it's suspicious."
