The former AFL player had an operation to relieve soreness last week and is set to resume training early in the New Year.
"Just through the year he had a bit of back pain and wasn't feeling 100 per cent so he had a bit of a clean up," Myrtleford coach Jake Sharp said.
"It will be as good as gold.
"It's just like a bloke getting a knee cleaned up.
"He's feeling a lot better and is on his rehab path."
Sharp said Will Quirk had also used the year off to underdog shoulder surgery to ensure he's fit for the 2021 Ovens and Murray season.
While the Saints have finished recruiting, they are waiting on several youngsters to finalise their university plans.
Myrtleford has added genuine class to its line-up since bowing out of the premiership race in the 2019 preliminary final with Matt Munro, Kurt Aylett, Taylor Hunt and Simpson committing to play at McNamara Reserve.
