There is now a checkpoint in place on the Bonegilla Road below the Weir Wall.
The 32 border crossings to be staffed by Victoria Police and SES personnel are coming into place.
It comes after waits of more than two hours on the Hume Freeway on Monday evening.

Traffic was at a stand-still from the checkpoint near the Bandiana Link off-ramp, nearly five kilometres to the north-bound Riverina Highway exit after 5pm.
A checkpoint has now been established at the Weir and the Foord Street Bridge at Wahgunyah - which were free-flowing yesterday - and VicRoads lists border control in Towong and Yarrawonga.

However, a photo taken at 10am on Monday indicates a crossing in the Upper Murray is not closed.
