Kevin Mack on Wednesday morning said he had been told the border clamps would be in place for a fortnight at a minimum after having been rolled out on Monday.
"My understanding is that it's a minimum of two weeks," Cr Mack told Albury's Triple M radio breakfast show.
"When they put all this hard infrastructure down they just don't pull it up just as quickly.
"It's interrupted the biggest highway in Australia the other day, caused four and half hour interruptions, how do they pull it out if they go through that again."

Cr Mack said he sympathised with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian who expressed frustration at other state governments, such as the Victorian administration of Premier Daniel Andrews, being quick close down frontiers.
"Daniel really didn't give her much capacity to deal with this one," Cr Mack said.
"She gave them a lot of leniency prior to shutting the NSW border, this particular outbreak he just reacted on very quickly and I think that's a little bit illogical."
Cr Mack noted the border was able to endure the previous closure and "hopefully this won't be 138 days, it might only be 14".
