The Southern Regional Planning Panel has given its tick of approval and joint venture partners, Pact Group, Asahi Beverages and Cleanaway have engaged Joss Construction to build the factory which is expected to provide 300 jobs in the construction phase and 30 full-time ongoing jobs.
It is estimated to result in the amount of locally sourced and recycled PET produced in Australia increase by 66 per cent from around 30,000 tonnes to more than 50,000 tonnes a year.
The factory will recycle the equivalent of around one billion 600ml PET plastic bottles each year when fully operational at some stage next year.
"This is an exciting step forward for the project," Cleanaway Waste Management chief executive Vik Bansal said.
"In particular, I want to thank the Albury Council for their ongoing support and commitment throughout the planning and approval process."
"Cleanaway has a number of employees that work and live in Albury-Wodonga.
"We are very pleased to be contributing to the creation of a truly domestic circular economy and can't wait to see this facility up and running."
"Asahi Beverages is tremendously excited to be making another investment and creating more jobs for the Albury-Wodonga region." Asahi Beverages group chief executive Robert Iervasi.
"Along with our beverage manufacturing plant in Albury, the new recycling plant is part of Asahi Beverages' long-term commitment to the region," he said.
"The Albury-Wodonga region can be proud of its contribution to manufacturing and recycling in Australia."
