FFM crews are on high alert after finding the fires at popular camping areas along the Murray River between Yarrawonga and Cobram, Murrindindi Scenic Reserve and Lake Eildon on Sunday.
"With hot and windy conditions forecast during the New Year period, we are reminding people to follow the rules when it comes to campfire safety to help prevent bushfires from starting," FFM said in an online statement via DEWLP Hume.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Campfires must never be left unattended and should be completely extinguished using plenty of water. If the fire is cool to touch then it's safe to leave.
"Campfires must never be ignited on Total Fire Ban days, as fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to contain."
Before lighting a campfire, check if a Total Fire Ban is in place, via the VicEmergency website, VicEmergency app or VicEmergency hotline (1800 226 226).
