Buyers doubled down and went harder on the second day of the Wodonga weaner sales at the Northern Victorian Livestock Exchange yesterday.

Independent agents assembled a high quality yarding of 2514 cattle and competition was again intense, particularly from NSW buyers eager to replenish stock numbers in the wake of recent rains.
Weaner steers topped out at $2070 and heifers sold strongly to $1880, an improvement on the day one prices.
Steers sold for an average of $1798.and heifers sell for an average of $1619.
Of the grown steers, Mt Elliott Grazing Co topped the overall market with 14 steers, aged 15-16 months, selling for $2180 per head.
They weighed in at an average 485kg, but in the genuine weaner lines prices per head mostly began at the $1600 mark with the top price of $2070 going to Staghorn Flat's John Maddock for 20 steers tipping the scales at 433kg.
John and Sue Adams, also from Staghorn Flat, were also among rejoicing with a big pen of 93 steers weighing an average 401kg selling for $1920 per head.
A secondary pen of 34 steers weighing 341kg also sold for $1745 per head and an even better 511c/kg figure.
"The industry is in fantastic shape and we are all benefiting from it," Mr Adams said.
"At Staghorn Flat where we we are, we had a terrific second half of last year.
"We're riding a high and am glad to be part of it."

A pen of nine steers belonging to CR & AM Sharp from near Jindabyne sold for $2015 per head after spending recent months on agistment in the Upper Murray.
They weighed in at 436kg.
Baranduda's Mick Penny was also among the happy producers with his tops, 18 steers, aged 10-13 months, making $1760 per head with a follow up pen fetching $1650 per head with an average weight of 340kg.
His heifers, also weighing 340kg, sold strongly to $1630 per head.
"It's been an exceptional season," he said.
"A bit of rain makes a difference.
"I'm going into this sale fully from next year.
"I've been running two herds and I was going to do it this year, but the sales came up on me too quick."
The top price for heifers of $1880 went to the Narracalca Partnership, Coolac.
They weighed in at 352kg and achieved one of the highest prices on a cents per kilogram basis of 534c/kg.
Among the the older heifers, Kevin and Heather Keenan from Yarrawonga sold 26 heifers weighing 477kg for $1970 per head with 14 heifers weighing 434kg sold by John Maddock for $1960 per head.
Buyers came from Inverell and Dunnedo were in attendance and bidding on StockLive online platform was again popular.
More than 280 people logged in with 33 buyers buyers purchasing lose to 20 per cent of the cattle on offer.
For the second day in a row more than 40 per cent of the sale attracted an online bid.
"The quality was exceptional," Corcoran Parker agent Bo Helwig said.
"The vendors have obviously done an exceptional job getting to the cattle to where they were today and how they presented.
"We knew it was going to be pretty good after the northern rain and the sales throughout Victoria earlier in the week.
"But it definitely exceeded expectations."
Brian Unthank Rural, Corcoran Parker, Peter Ruaro Livestock and Schubert Boers conducted the highly successful sale.
