Crews continue to work on the six to eight acre fire on a hill near Rifle Range Road on Monday.

The fire started about 10.10am and was under control after an hour, followed by a lengthy blacking process to ensure it didn't reignite.

Acting assistant chief fire officer Rod Railton said an excavator working on private property had hit a rock and sparked the fire.

"There was great support from the aircraft, the fire was brought under control very quickly" he said.

"We were very lucky.

"It was a good effort by all."

An advice message was put out but the fire didn't threaten any properties.

Crews worked in temperatures of up to 35 degrees at the scene.

Mr Railton said there would be an elevated fire risk on Wednesday with warmer weather and lower humidity.

"It's important people stay vigilant and report any fires immediately by calling Triple-0," he said.

Firefighters have managed to bring a blaze near Glenrowan under control.

The Country Fire Authority has issued an advice warning for residents from Glenrowan to Winton warning to expect smoke and water bombers in the area.

The advice said there is bushfire at Rifle Range Road, Glenrowan, that is not yet under control.

The bushfire is travelling in a southwesterly direction.

CFA said there was no current threat to residents, but they should be prepared in case the situation changes.

Firefighters are responding to a fire which has broken out in Glenrowan.

The blaze was reported on a hill south of the town about 10.10am on Monday, with the incident located around Rifle Range Road and Glenrowan West Road.

IN OTHER NEWS:

A large number of triple zero calls have been made with waterbombing aircraft alerted to the fire.

No alerts have been issued for the incident, which has a fire front spanning several hundred metres.

The fire is burning close to a phone tower.
