She could tell from his odd behaviour that Amandeep Singh had been drinking.
The 31-year-old unemployed North Albury man also reeked of alcohol.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Singh twice rubbed his genitals on the outside of his pants in front of the woman.
He then told the victim: "It's hard, I need to put it in."
Singh has pleaded guilty to a single charge of carrying out a sexual act with another person without consent, over which magistrate Richard Funston ordered a sentence assessment report.
The supermarket cannot be named as this in turn could identify the victim.
The court heard how the victim greeted Singh after he entered the Albury supermarket on December 31 about 12.20pm.
He was wearing a blue T-shirt and trousers.
"The accused," police said in an outline of the case submitted to Mr Funston, "then proceeded to rub his genitals with one hand on the outside of his pants."
At first, Singh did not say anything to the victim but then explained he wanted to buy some fast food.
His only option was a frozen meal so the victim directed Singh to the store's pre-packaged meals.
"The accused continued to rub his genitals on the outside of his pants," police said.
It was then that Singh made his lewd comment, before asking the woman if her husband was also working in the store.
"The victim kept ignoring the accused's sexual gestures."
Singh selected a meal, for $3, then went to pay with a credit card.
The minimal EFTPOS purchase was $10, but the woman processed the transaction as she didn't want Singh to stay a moment longer.
"Once the accused left, the victim broke down and was crying when she was telling her employer what had happened."
Singh was arrested the same day while at the Albury police station over an unrelated matter.
He will be sentenced on March 1.
