In an alert to residents the Rural Fire Service said a total fire ban would commence at midnight today due to forecast hot and windy conditions predicted on Wednesday.
The ban covers Berrigan, Edward River, Federation, Murray River and Southern parts of Murrumbidgee shires.
In Deniliquin temperature of 41 are forecast with a chance of a thunderstorm.
Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees in Albury-Wodonga. While total fire bans have not been declared, the fire danger in North East Victorian and Southern Riverina is 'very high'.

RFS warned a harvest safety alert could be issued on Wednesday and recommended harvest operators monitored conditions.
Residents have been warned to stay hydrated and out of the sun where possible and to keep an eye on pets, young children and the elderly who may be affected by the heat.
