Yesterday was tipped to top 41 degrees on the Border but the top temperature fell a few degrees short reaching 38.9 degrees at 2.58pm.
The first 13 days of 2021 have been reasonably mild, with just one other day reaching above 35 degrees - January 12 also recording a top temperature of 38.9 degrees.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A total fire ban was in place yesterday, with fire crews on high alert during the hot dry weather.
The hottest day in December on the Border was January 27 with 36.4 degrees.
Further down the river Yarrawonga just tipped over 40 degrees yesterday reaching a top of 40.1 degrees at 3.34pm.
Tuesday reached 39.2 degrees, with December 27 recording 38.5.
The heat is expected to subside for the rest of the week and into the weekend with Albury-Wodonga expecting temperatures to reach 33 and 27 on Thursday and Friday.
