The Wodonga Vinnies shop temporarily stopped accepting donations on Thursday to allow for the necessary cleaning and sorting of items.
The Salvation Army outlet has erected a temporary fence and is only accepting donations in store from 9am to 1pm due to the massive amount of donations and quarantine requirements.
Vinnies Victorian retail general manager Jeff Antcliff said there had been a significant reduction in irresponsible donating or dumping.
"The quality of the donations has never been better," he said. "Waste items are way down on previous years.
"The last year during all the challenges of COVID has bought out the best in the people of Wodonga with more kindness."
