Star New City batsman Shoaib Shaikh's chances of scoring more runs than any other CAW Provincial player in a single season have taken a hit after he was slapped with a two-match ban for misconduct.

A report was filed by the umpires against Shaikh for throwing his equipment after he left the field when he was run out against Lavington at Urana Road Oval on Saturday.
Cricket Albury-Wodonga's code of behaviour states if equipment is thrown, on or off the ground, it results in an automatic two-match ban.

The former Indian Premier League player made 64 on the weekend which took his total to 638 from 10 innings at an average of 70.89.
He produced an unbeaten 149 to steer the Phoenix to victory against Belvoir a week earlier.
"All we can say is we're incredibly disappointed," New City president Chris Green said.

"We're standing by Shoaib.
"There's isn't grounds for appeal, so we have to wear the penalty.
"As a club and as a league, it's disappointing that a batsman of this calibre is not going to be seen for the next two matches."
Wodonga's Bob Jackson holds the record for most runs in a season with 1032 at an average of just under 80, but it was when two-day cricket was played in the league.
New City hosts Albury on Saturday and will also be without Shaikh for the round 16 clash away to bottom side Wodonga Raiders.
