The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is needing an extra 80 people to roll up their sleeve and give in the lead up to Australia Day.
Lifeblood spokesperson Cathy Chapman said fewer people tend to donate on public holidays and Australia Day is no exception.
"We know that many of our regular donors will be taking a well-earned break, and others may decide to take Monday off as well, giving themselves a four-day weekend," she said.
"But the need for blood never stops.
"This Australia Day there will be people in hospital needing blood for cancer treatment, trauma, surgery, bleeding disorders and obstetrics.
"t's vital that Australians step up to ensure patients receive the blood they need."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Albury Donor Centre is open every day including Australia Day from 8am to 3pm.
"There is nothing more Australian than helping out a mate, and if you're able to help save the life of a complete stranger, that makes you a bloody legend," Ms Chapman said.
"Donating blood is simple. It only takes an hour of your time and you are helping to save the lives of three fellow Australians.
"What better way to kick off the year and give back to your community?"
