A man armed with an uncapped syringe is being sought by police after trying to stick up an Albury supermarket.

The man went to the Woolworths at Myer Centrepoint about 8am on Sunday.
He asked for cigarettes before pulling out the syringe and demanding cash.
He left empty handed.
Police attended and commenced inquiries.

He was of solid build, about 160 to 170 centimetres tall, and had an olive complexion with short hair.
He had tattoos on his arms and was wearing a black Nixon hat, black T-shirt with a grey singlet underneath and black Adidas tracksuit pants.
