So much so, he's become an entity.
They never say: "Is Arnold's coming today?"
They always say: "Is Bill coming today?"
Arnold's Fruit Market marketing and promotions manager Louise Arnold called it: "The Bill Effect."
"He goes to people's houses weekly or fortnightly with their deliveries and he just has this lovely way with them," she said.
"Our customers always remark on his smile and they say he feels like part of the family."
Having delivered fruit and vegetable boxes for Arnold's Online during the past 15 years, Mr Mooney, 74, made his last deliveries throughout Albury-Wodonga on Friday afternoon.
He knew all his customers and their children by name.
He said he always learnt the children's names from birth; a method that had served him well.
"I've always enjoyed meeting the families; getting to know them and their kids as their families grew," he said.
"There's nothing better than meeting the kids at the front door!
"I've seen them grow up from the time they were babies until they're teenagers."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Yackandandah-born Mr Mooney joined the Arnold's Online team in 2006 after a 35-year career with Australia Post in Wodonga.
He said he'd always been in the delivery business in one way or another.
"I love working," Mr Mooney said.
"In 2006 I was looking for part-time work and I'm lucky enough to have worked as long as I have."
With Arnold's Online launching on June 2, 2003, Ms Arnold said more people had turned to deliveries during the coronavirus pandemic.
With orders up from 280 to 320 a week to 500, other drivers have joined the team.
Ms Arnold said Mr Mooney's retirement was the end of an era for Arnold's Online.
She said former customers from as far away as the Danish capital, Copenhagen, had sent videos to wish him well.
"He never had a sick day, he was always on time, he never let us down, he always said hello to everyone by name," Ms Arnold said.
"Not only has he got his own family, but he had the Arnold's family and all the families on his delivery rounds too."
The father of five, grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of one said he looked forward to his retirement.
"I've got family in Brisbane and Townsville and because of COVID it's been two-and-a-half years since we've visited them," he said.
"I like to play golf one day a week and I've always followed the Demons and the Raiders."
