Finch and the Australian T20 squad have landed in Christchurch to undergo a fortnight's quarantine before a five-game series against New Zealand.

The 18-player group doesn't include stars Steve Smith, Patrick Cummins and Josh Hazelwood, who were among the abandoned South African Test squad.

Instead, the New Zealand tour is packed with Big Bash talent, including player of the series Josh Phillipe and 19-year-old spinner Tanveer Sangha.

"The great thing about this tour is that everyone's in really good form so we'll use this as a way to gather a lot of information, leading up to that T20 World Cup," Finch said.

"The result is not the be all and end all.

"Building up and finding information, finding different ways that our team can structure up is almost more important."

The T20 World Cup final is slated for November 14, which would come on the eve of Australia's home Ashes defence.

Despite the fixture congestion, Finch said he expected Australia's big names would turn up for the World Cup and not rest for the Tests.

"I would be very surprised if they ... said they didn't want to be a part of it," he said.

"The opportunity to win world titles doesn't come around every day of the week so I think you've got to take them."

While his teammates are in fine touch, Finch himself is not after a shocker Big Bash season.

Finch captained the Renegades to a second-straight wooden spoon and with an average of 13.76, the Colac-born opener finished 43rd in the run-scoring charts.

After a torrid year of lockdowns and bubbles, Finch scored six in his last BBL outing and put his bat out of sight.

"I literally didn't touch a bat during the during the 10 days I had off," he said.

"Being home for a couple of days has been brilliant, seeing my wife and and just spending time at home has been great.

"Putting the bat down for a while, just looking at some footage and assessing where you think your game was at, and being realistic about it was as much as I needed to do.

"I know that I can still play.

"I feel pretty good to be honest and that might sound pretty stupid coming off the back of not many runs."

The Australian squad, coached by Andrew McDonald and George Bailey in Justin Langer's absence, are unable to leave their quarantine rooms until later this week when they'll begin individual training.

The series begins on February 22 in Christchurch.
