But when it comes to Valentine's Day, Border florists say it's red roses that are always the favourite.
The timeless flower is expected to be in hot demand this weekend as residents make that last-minute dash before the day of love tomorrow.
"Red roses are always the most popular," Albury's Flowers Naturally owner Brooke Leslie said.
"But this year native flowers are on trend, so people are leaning a bit towards them.
"It's a bit of a last-minute thing normally."
Dried flowers have also surged in popularity, with people appreciating their long-lasting lifespan and variety of colour.
"They've been really popular," Ms Leslie said.
"We have a lot of people who come in and give us their colour scheme for their house and they get some custom made."
The demand for flowers has only risen since the COVID-19 pandemic, as friends and family look for alternative ways to show their love from afar.
"It's definitely been a lot busier during COVID," Ms Leslie said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"A lot of people can't attend certain events, so they were sending flowers."
Wodonga's Jannoel Florist owner Stacey Hogan took over the High Street business in July last year.
Despite battling COVID-19 restrictions and border closures, Ms Hogan said the florist industry was still going strong.
"We were a bit unsure how it was going to look, but there's been quite a high demand for flowers because they haven't been able to go and visit their loved ones," she said.
"People who wouldn't normally send flowers have been sending them during this time.
"We took the plunge and it's been a positive experience."
Ms Hogan said candles had also been popular selection, while handmade goods from the region were also used as add-ons to flower arrangements.
"Where we can we source locally," she said.
Roses are also her hot tip for impressing this weekend.
"Generally the rose is the standout flower for the week," Ms Hogan said.
"You do have people that like mixed varieties as well.
"People that wouldn't normally purchase flowers will this week."
