Earlier today, the Health Department's said Brad Hazzard would issue an order to ensure anyone who recently entered NSW from Victoria must follows the 'stay at home' rules in place in Victoria for five days.
Member for Albury Justin Clancy has clarified the NSW border to Victoria would remain open.
He said NSW residents who live in the border bubble do not have to isolate or follow the Victorian restrictions if they have been to Victoria.
"We've been working closely with the Premier and Health Minister's offices and they are acutely aware of any impact on border residents," he said.
"Whilst a public health order is being crafted, border community residents will be exempt from that order."
Mr Clancy said the 'border bubble' is defined as the area featured in the last iteration of the border zone map, as used during the NSW border closure.
He said the government is acutely aware of the situation on the border.
NSW Health said in a statement "For NSW residents living along the Victorian border, the five-day stay-at-home requirement will only apply to people who have visited Greater Melbourne after 11.59pm on Friday 12 February. It will not apply to NSW border residents who travel into regional Victoria."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Public Health Order is designed to "require anyone who has been in Victoria at any time on or after Friday 29 January 2021, remains at their home or place of residence for the five-day period announced by the Victorian government," it said.
"People now in NSW who have been in Victoria on or since 29 January will be permitted to leave their places of residence for the same four reasons allowed under the Victorian restrictions. There are: shopping for essential items, medical and other care and caregiving, exercise, and essential work."
The department also said people who are subject to the Victorian restrictions should not be travelling to NSW unless they are permitted to do so.
The state has strongly advised against all non-essential travel to Victoria and said anyone who does travel to the state will be required to follow the stay-at-home restrictions on their return.
