Both Albury and Wodonga RSL sub-branches still hope to hold marches and services on April 25 but accept specific arrangements may need to change.
Albury RSL president Graham Docksey said he had advertised plans for a dawn service, 9am Dean Street march and 10am service at Monument Hill on the NSW RSL website. The state body announced last week NSW RSL sub-branches were allowed under the current health advice to organise controlled outdoor events for Anzac Day.
Mr Docksey said he was "determined" the services would go ahead, while the march might need to be modified, for example reducing the number of student participants.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The support we can get from the community in trying to distance themselves along the length of Dean Street might be the answer to this, but I think it would be a shame not to have a march at all," he said.
"But at the very last minute, if we have to cancel it because we're given some direction, that's the way it will be."
Wodonga RSL secretary Kate Chamberlain noted the need to be optimistic.
"Our veterans did it really hard last year, particularly given we lost Anzac Day and Remembrance Day," she said. "So we'll continue to plan for a normal Anzac Day and if the worst happens, we will, I guess, tweak it a bit so we can deliver some form of service."
Mr Docksey said any volunteer helpers should call Anzac House on (02) 6021 1341.
"I'm looking for the community to support us in every way they can because it's all about the veterans," he said.
