A Wodonga man who sped off from police and then overtook another car on an inside run has been warned his drug habit could kill him.

The downfall of Jaiden Walter Brooks, Albury Local Court has heard, had coincided with his illicit drug use of the past two years, defence lawyer Mitchell Irwin said.
But magistrate Richard Funston said it was up to Brooks to do something about that.

"That's going to kill you."
Brooks, 25, of Lambourn Drive, pleaded guilty to dangerous or reckless driving, fail to comply with request or signal to stop vehicle and not disclose driver's details.
Brooks pulled into the North Albury APCO service station on December 17 just before 5am.
His passenger bought some items then Brooks drove north on Mate Street. Police followed, with both stopping for a red light at the Union Road intersection.
Brooks turned into Mate Street and headed east, again followed by police who turned on their lights and sirens to get him to pull over for a random alcohol breath test.
Initially, it appeared Brooks was going to stop.
But then he accelerated and "overtook a vehicle on the inside".
Police decided not to pursue him.
But they watched as Brooks "accelerated harshly" and overtook several vehicles at an estimated 120km/h in what was a 60km/h zone, in light rain.
About 8.40am the car was stopped in Glenroy, but this time the owner was driving.
He lent the car to a friend just before midnight.
Brooks was convicted, placed on a 12-month conditional release order and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
