A huge volunteer effort has been undertaken in recent days to remove the existing turf, which was installed in 2009, to prepare for a new surface next month.
The project is set to cost $300,000, with Albury Council to contribute half the funds required.
HAW sports operations manager Cayte Campbell said rain delays pushed the removal back, but repair work will be completed on the underlying shock pad next week before the turf is laid later in March.

"The season at this stage starts one week before Easter, but we'll be able to manage one week without using Albury 1," Campbell said.
"We've got Albury 2, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Beechworth and Corowa and if necessary we can mark out grounds three and four at Albury."
The turf from the pitch will be sold with those interested to contact Cayte Campbell at the HAW office.
