Campbell Paul Bailey had seven pistols, five rifles, 17 gel-blaster shells and up to two kilograms of gel-blaster ammunition.
Bailey has told Albury Local Court he suspected that police had received a tip-off about the firearms through Crime Stoppers.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Defence lawyer Mark Cronin said Bailey, who was supported in court by his parents, was "very co-operative" with police.
"He in fact took police to them (in the house on December 30)," he said.
"These things are readily available. There's ad-after-ad for them on the internet."
Mr Cronin said such firearms were also legal in some states, such as Victoria and Queensland, as had once been the case in NSW.
He said Bailey, who used the gel blasters in role play with his younger brother on a rural property, accepted responsibility for his offending.
Mr Cronin said that because the gel blasters were classified as firearms, Bailey had a responsibility to ensure the weapons' safe storage - even though there was the anomaly of also not being able to have these registered.
Bailey, 26, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing an unauthorised pistol, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition without authority, not keep a firearm safely and not keep a firearm, being a pistol, safely.
Magistrate Richard Funston told Bailey he accepted the context of the firearms in his possession.
"I also acknowledge the laws are pretty strict in this area," he said.
Bailey was placed on a 12-month conditional release order, without conviction.
