Adelaide entered Saturday's contest at John Cain Arena aiming to improve on their slow starts, after falling behind 36-10 in a loss to Melbourne United two nights earlier.

But New Zealand blew the Sixers off the court with a 32-6 start to set a league record for the largest first-quarter lead in a 40-minute game.

The Breakers increased their advantage to 30 points at the main break, creating a club record for the biggest halftime lead, before going on to become the first team to earn maximum points in the NBL Cup by winning all four quarters.

"Obviously it's just one win in a league that we are behind by a lot but hopefully we can ride on it and build on it," coach Dan Shamir said after New Zealand snapped a four-match losing streak to earn their second win of the NBL season.

Corey Webster (29 points, five three-pointers) and Tai Webster (29 points, 11 assists) tormented Adelaide to see the Breakers equal the largest winning margin in franchise history, matching their 44-point victory over the Sydney Spirit back in 2008.

A 20-point effort from reserve Jack McVeigh was the lone bright spot on a dark day for the Sixers, which was compounded by the loss of centre Isaac Humphries to a foot injury.

Coach Conner Henry conceded that the packed schedule and injuries affecting his squad's ability to train were starting to impact their performance.

"We're not in a good spot and we discussed this scenario about making sure we are ready to go and battling through fatigue," Henry said.

"That first quarter got way out of hand and we weren't able to stop it."

New Zealand scored the opening 14 points of the match and once Humphries limped off the court after four minutes the Sixers capitulated as they closed the first quarter on two-of-14 shooting with six turnovers.

McVeigh answered the call for the Sixers in the second period, providing a much-needed boost with four triples in a 16-point burst, but the Breakers kept piling on the points to take a 60-30 lead into halftime.
