A house in Wagga has been "totally destroyed" by a fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning that started in potentially suspicious circumstances.
Emergency services were called to Frances Court in Ashmont at 1.32 am following reports of a house fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW Turvey Park Station Commander Jeff Edwards said firefighters said it was an unusual fire that caused damage throughout the house, whose occupants were away at the time.
"The house was totally destroyed including everything in the house, including the double garage," he said.
"It was a three-bedroom house with a nice undercover barbecue undercover area out the back but that was totally destroyed as well.
Mr Edwards said firefighters could see the embers rising from the property as they raced to the scene.
"We knew it was a fairly substantial fire when we were still four kilometres from the fire," he said.
"On arrival, we found probably the whole street was out watching or filming.

"When we turned up the flames were already up through the front door, front windows, side windows and up through the roof as well."
Neighbours told firefighters that the family that lived at the house were away from the property.
"We needed confirmation of they so they rang the neighbours for us and we spoke to the neighbours and they came to the premises to confirm that nobody was in the house," Mr Edwards said.
Police, ambulance and electricity and gas workers also attended the incident.
Three appliances from Fire and Rescue NSW Turvey Park 372 and Wagga 480 stations took two hours to extinguish the fire.
Mr Edwards said the fire scene had been handed over to police.
"They will be investigating as far as the fire is concerned and also they may be in contact with the fire investigation unit in Sydney to have a look at it as well," he said.
"The house was totally destroyed and there was not one room saved, it's very rare for that to happen."
