North East Water is actively working to treat the water and is assuring the community the water is safe. Executive of operations John Day said the blue-green algae bloom is persisting in the Mitta Mitta arm of Lake Hume.
"The recent rain which is now flowing into Lake Hume appears to have slowed the algae growth, however testing has also detected blue-green algae and geosmin in other parts of the lake," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The good news is, our Murray system treatment plants are treating the raw water with powdered active carbon which is successfully removing the taste and odour affects, and the water is safe to drink."
The highest level of powdered active carbon is being used at the Tallangatta treatment plant.
