NSW Rural Fire Service crews are working to extinguish the blaze about seven kilometres south east of the township, alerted to the incident just before 7am on Monday.
Fire and Rescue NSW Riverina Zone Superintendent Stewart Alexander said a Wagga FRNSW crew was also on its way to provide backup to RFS firefighters.
"We are hearing reports of a couple of hundred hay bales currently alight at a barn property near Uranquinty," he said.
"There are no reported injuries at this stage though which is good to hear."
