Patricia Hynes was the acting manager at the central Albury business when she committed the crime.
On five occasions, Albury Local Court heard on Monday, she put transactions through the till for sales that never actually occurred.
IN OTHER NEWS:
In one case, the supposed customer had never been to the shop in West End Plaza.
Another had, but on being contacted confirmed that she did not by the shoes for which a sale went through the shop's register.
Defence lawyer Jason Hanke told magistrate Richard Funston the crime was "an aberration, your honour".
"Well," Mr Funston said, "I can see there's been no offending since.
Hynes, now 46, of Market Street, pleaded guilty to a single charge of steal property as a clerk or servant.
All up, Hynes stole $257.25 through her ruse, for which she appeared in court on Monday.
Prosecutor Sergeant Andrew Pike said it was accepted what was stolen was a relatively small amount.
Sergeant Pike said there was no claim for compensation as the shop had since gone out of business.
The court was told that Hynes had been employed by the shop for about two years when she was appointed duty manager in 2010.
This made her second-in-charge, with responsibility for various financial processes within the store.
When her boss went on leave, she filled in as relieving manager between August 31 and October 12, 2010, which was when she committed the thefts.
Mr Hanke said Hynes had a clean criminal record, aside from a matter in 1994.
Hynes received a 12-month conditional release order, without conviction.
