The former Melbourne player was reported by field umpire Hayden Pearson for carelessly striking Albury midfielder Jake Gaynor in the third quarter of the Hawks' clash against the Tigers at W.J. Findlay Oval on Saturday night.
Jones was offered a one-match ban for the offence, but instead will plead his case to be cleared to face North Albury at Bunton Park on Saturday.
The highly-anticipated Wangaratta derby awaits in round three.
If unsuccessful, Jones will be the second Rovers player in as many weeks to be rubbed out.
