The Boat Shed's inaugural Pre-Mother's Day Lunch on Friday, April 30, will raise money for Betty's Place Women's Refuge, which comes under the umbrella of YES Unlimited's services.

YES Unlimited community engagement coordinator Michelle Milligan said the coronavirus pandemic had impacted fundraising events across the board.

"Fundraising events have not happened to the same degree as they would have normally, which has of course resulted in less donations of this nature," she said.

"Fundraisers that result in monetary donations allow us to be flexible, creative and targeted in the way we assist the people we work with, above and beyond any regular funding we receive."

Ms Milligan said while the number of domestic and family violence reports remained stable during the past year, there was a rise in the severity of incidents reported.

"Fundraising events allow us to educate people about the social challenges that Yes works to address, and also allows us to inform people about where they can seek support if they or someone they know needs it," Ms Milligan said.

"We know that these issues can impact anyone in our community, and it's so important that people understand the supports available to them."

The marketing manager of Traverse Alpine Group, which represents The Boat Shed Lake Hume, Pip Hunt said the charity lunch was timely.

Ms Hunt said the past 12 months had been challenging for many in the community amid the global pandemic.

"It has been harder to raise money to support essential services like Betty's Place," she said.

Border models and stylists Miss Brandi Lee and Hayley Blomeley and their mums, Criss Doughty and Sally Wray-McCann, will be charity lunch ambassadors.

Rock My Frock founder Miss Brandi Lee said she wanted to give back to the community.

"I'm looking forward to doing that with my mum too," she said.
