Lochlan Nixon-May and Scott Coates allegedly committed a home invasion before taking the victim to a Wodonga home and attacking him.
The victim was allegedly tied to a stool and engraved with a knife before having $13,000 worth of property and a car stolen.
The court has previously heard the victim was at a Wirilda Close home on December 18, and the incident occurred after he tried to buy marijuana from Coates.
The Magistrates Court this week heard 12 witnesses were due to give evidence in Coates' contested committal.
Seven police officers, four members of the public and a doctor are on the witness list.
The accused pair's matters are proceeding separately.
Coates appeared in court on a video link from a home.
Graffiti could be seen on the walls behind him as he listened to proceedings.
The court heard he had been on a drug treatment program while on bail and had engaged well.
He has reported an improvement to his mental health after stopping his drug use, and has a more positive relationship with family and friends.
The court heard he had used drugs for many years.
