Charlie and Wendy Gardner are usually all over Australia with their rides.
With the support of the Wodonga Turf Club and Wodonga Show Society, they organised a two-weekend "family fun fair" where the city's show usually takes place.
Mrs Gardner said they would donate back to those groups, which were also suffering, where they could.
"Two months ago we starting organising a pop-up fun fair," she said.
"We haven't worked for eight months.
"We live in Leneva and around about April, we head to Darwin for shows, come back and do the Summernats and then do school fetes."
Mrs Gardner said none of that could happen last year.
"It's been heartbreaking for us, we all have commitments and things to pay off and we got JobKeeper but didn't get any grants," she said.
Mr Gardner said the fun fair "was a gamble" but with 500 families already through the gates at Saturday lunchtime, things were looking good.
"We just hope everybody enjoys themselves," he said.
Rides will run from 10am until late at the showgrounds on April 10, 11, 17 and 18.
