Farmers across the North-East are outraged campers can access their properties for up 28 days without the need for prior permission.
Our region is blessed to have so many major waterways which are highly attractive to campers.
But the present legislation, which has already passed through both house of the Victorian parliament and due to come into effect on September 1, has open up a plethora of potential problems with farmers who have paid up for access Crown land adjoining their properties naturally concerned.
The government has achieved its objective of delivering on a 2018 election commitment to open up more areas to campers, but farming communities believe they aren't being considered.
A consultation period is underway, but landowners remain cynical and fear the horse has bolted.

Murray River Action Group has called the meeting in Howlong to put the finishing touches on a submission it plans to fire in before the April 19 deadline.
The Victorian Farmers Federation has also come out with renewed opposition to the pending regulations.
Acknowledging the legislation will be close to impossible to overturn in its entirety, the VFF is hoping some wins can be achieved before the September introduction.
Top of the list is a review process in 12 months' time to overturn any regulations that aren't working.
It also wants the time allowed to camp to be slashed from 28 days to five and no access along closed or unused roads traversing private property.
Camper-owned pets including dogs must also stay at home and farmers should be allowed to erect signs regarding private, public boundaries and biosecurity protocols.
Tuesday night represents a chance for farmers to stand up and have their voices heard.
