Experience the magic of Patricia Piccinini's Skywhale and Skywhalepapa as they come to life in Albury. Set your alarm and make a beeline for the Lavington Sports Ground for a breathtaking sunrise experience. The 30-metre sculptures will rise from the ground in the pre-dawn glow. They inflate over 90 minutes, reaching their full height at sunrise, about 6.30am. Weather permitting, the Skywhales will be released into the sky at sunrise. Tickets are essential.

Australia's musical theatre darling Rachael Beck will perform a spectacular concert fundraiser for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. Beck has starred in Australian productions including The Sound of Music as Maria, Beauty and the Beast as Belle, Les Miserables as Fantine and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as Truly Scrumptious. She will perform in Albury with the Border's own Murray Riverina Jazz Orchestra.

Vardos - an all-female band known for their electrifying live performances - join Music in the Gardens this weekend. Led by violinist Alana Hunt, the "live wire in chief", and learning their craft from folk and Roma musicians in Eastern Europe, Vardos combines accordion, double bass and violin in performances of stirring compositions that draw on gypsy form and melodies. Arrive early to avoid disappointment as capacity limits apply.
