A short, sharp lightning storm early Monday morning caused widespread power outages in the North East.

Residents in Wodonga, Tallangatta and Baranduda took to social media to report a loss of power from about 4.30am.
Ausnet's outage tracker indicated the utility was responding to a high number of incidents, but power had been restored to most homes within two hours.
By 8am, 148 customers were still off supply, most of them located in Beechworth.
Wodonga's Jazmyn Morgan filmed the flash of lightning that preceded the outage at 4.36am.
Others spoke of being startled by a loud clap of thunder.
The Bureau of Meteorology's weather station at Albury Airport recorded 0.2mm of rain at 4.30am and another 0.2mm two hours later.
Showers were forecast to continue through Monday, with the chance of a thunderstorm and gusty winds in the afternoon and evening. The expected top temperature is 21 degrees.
