The Toni Wilson Medallist took to the court for the second half of the Pies' 11-point round one loss to Sunshine Coast Lightning at Melbourne's John Cain Arena.
Traditionally a goal defender, Newton also aided the side in goal keeper for the Super Netball clash.
"Obviously the nerves were there, but I felt more excitement than anything," she said.
"I loved the lead up, we had a really good captain's run before the game and the vibe was really good.
"We were pretty disappointed to have the score blown out to 11 goals because it didn't feel like that out there.
"Everyone still had their heads up."
ALSO IN SPORT:
Newton was picked up by Collingwood after three years as a training partner with the Melbourne Vixens, spending the 2020 season in a Queensland hub with the side.
She admitted it's nice to have support in the stands this time round.
"It was awesome having my friends and family at the game," she said.
"As much as losing isn't great, when I went to the rooms after and they were all there, it just really helped.
"I was really appreciative of their support.
"Hopefully we'll be able to get some good crowds in for the rest of the season."
Collingwood will now prepare to take on the Giants for round two.
