Dylan Icely must make concerted efforts to address his methamphetamine habit and also find somewhere to live in NSW if he is to avoid prison.
The 22-year-old was one of several people involved in the incident among neighbours in Endeavour Place, North Albury, on March 6.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Icely was charged with affray, to which he has pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court.
During the incident, Icely and a woman, who was armed with an aluminium baseball bat and a long piece of wood, confronted people from a nearby house.
Abuse was shouted and a tomahawk produced and then used to make threats.
At one point Icely hit a woman, causing her to drop the tomahawk.
Magistrate Miranda Moody said Icely, of Mayfair Drive, previously had been sentenced to community correction orders "on numerous occasions" and there had also at times been warrants out for his arrest.
Ms Moody said she would order a sentence assessment report.
"There's a connection between his drug problems and all his offending," she said.
"He needs to get it into his head that he will be going into full-time custody if he breaches any intensive corrections order."
But Ms Moody said there was "no guarantee" of such an order, which would require Icely to obtain a permanent NSW address.
"You're so young," she told Icely, "and 'ice' is ruining your life.
"You need to come clean before you come back before the court."
Icely will be sentenced on June 17.
